Jimmy Nash Trail, Martinsville:
This will be a rewarding 3-mile trail in a remarkably wild section of Martinsville's Nash Park. The work began in 2009, and may take until 2011 to complete. It's a hilly and challenging route to build, far from the crowds that visit the developed facilities at the "front" of the property.!
Meet at 9am at the north end of Home Ave. at the park, next to the pond near the entrance.
June 12 Completing the clearing of the 3-mile trail bed.
July 10 Beginning the trail construction.
August 7 Continuing construction of the trail (work will continue throughout the fall.)
For more information about the Nash Park trail project, please contact the HHC at hikers@hoosierhikerscouncil.org or mlstuttgen@comcast.net. Tools are provided. No experience needed; learn as you work with experienced trail builders. Wear old clothes and bring lunch and plenty of water. Children welcome if accompanied by working adults. We have several regulars.
Northern Indiana Trail Project:
Trail
building projects are being considered on several properties
in the north. We hope to add trails at State D.N.R.
Fish & Wildlife Areas like the Boy Scout Trail at Minnehaha
that the HHC rehabilitated in 1998. Interested trail
builders who reside in the northern part of the state
are especially needed for this work.
Spurgeon
Hollow Fish & Wildlife Area: The HHC is currently working
to identify and sign trails at Spurgeon Hollow Fish
& Wildlife Area, a spectacularly special natural area
with both hiking and canoeing attractions in addition
to hunting. For an update on progress: hikers@hoosierhikerscouncil.org.

Harrison-Crawford
State Forest:
An
inventory of trail conditions was carried out by the
HHC at this property in 1998. We made some minor fixes
then. Much more work remains: although H-CSF has separate
hiking and horse trails, horseback riders spill over
onto hiking trails. Volunteers from the south are needed
to monitor and assist in rehabilitating and maintaining
hiking trails.
