Trail
Building & Maintenance:
Adopt-A-Trail
The
HHC Knobstone Adopt-A-Trail System:
Responsibilities:
Adopting
is not complicated nor strenuous. Trails are subdivided
into 2 to 5-mile sections. Monitors are required to
walk their section four times a year, pruning brush,
clearing obstacles, and calling in HHC crew help if
storms create obstructions.
Simple Evaluation Forms Provided: Appalachian
Mountain Club-type forms are given to monitors to evaluate
trail conditions to submit to the HHC Trail Monitor. If you've already signed up to Adopt-A-Trail
you can download the evaluation form in MS Word format.
How To: To
find out about responsibilities, training, and how to
sign up for a section, contact the DNR at jallen@dns.state.in.us or the HHC at mlwilcoxson@sbcglobal.net
and give your address (and preferred trail if you have
one).
Note:
The Adopt-a-Trail program is for trails in Morgan-Monroe State Forest and Yellowwood State Forest, including the Tecumseh Trail.

Trail Support Groups:
The
HHC is concerned about maintenance on all backcountry
trails in Indiana, and would like to help local groups
get organized and trained to help keep them in shape.
Many groups are active now. Please contact one of those
listed here. If a group near you is active and is not
listed here, please e-mail the HHC at hikers@hoosierhikerscouncil.org
to list it and increase its support base!
